During the winter season the surrounding region has plenty to offer for skiers and snowboarders, the closest ski area is Hochzillertal - Hochfügen which offers pistes leading directly down to Aschau and are known for excellent freeriding. Another popular ski area is Spieljoch, where families in particular feel right at home.
