The municipality of Karft is located in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district between Wittenburg and Zarrentin on the Schalsee, about 35 kilometers from Schwerin. The old town of the small town of Wittenburg is surrounded by a well-preserved rampart, the tower and wall remains of which have been restored. The church and town hall of Wittenburg are also worth seeing. Shops, restaurants and cafés can be found in the town. In the well-known Alpine Center, in addition to the opportunity to ski all year round, there are also plenty of events. Thanks to the good connection to the motorway, trips to Hamburg, Schwerin and Wismar are worthwhile.

The Schaalsee Biosphere Reserve (10 km) is recognized by UNESCO and as a nature lover you will come across many rare animals and plants here, which are best discovered on hikes and bike tours. A designated network of cycle and hiking trails of more than 180 kilometers in length leads you through pure and unspoiled nature. The Schaalsee Biosphere Reserve is located directly on the former inner-German border. A circular hike across the Strangen peninsula and along the Kirchensee impressively shows how formerly populated areas and border installations have been and are being reclaimed by nature. The just over 40-kilometer-long bike tour around the Schaalsee is also very nice. Wittenburg with its indoor ski hall, quad track and a great adventure playground is only about 6 km away.
